Indigenous to Kerala, Kalaripayattu is an ancient martial art known for its scientific approach to movement and combat. It’s widely practised around the world today, blending agility, strength, and mental discipline. With its unique combination of strikes, postures, and weapons training, it’s considered one of the most graceful martial arts.
Kalaripayattu features a wide range of techniques that focus on footwork, strikes, movements, and forms. At Mamangam, we follow the Arappu Kai style of Northern Kalaripayattu, the practise of which is deeply rooted in four key components; Meyithaari (Foundational Body movements), Kolthari (wooden weaponry), Angathaari (metal weaponry), and verumkai (Hand techniques).

Introduction to Weapon training
In our classes, the focus isn’t solely on attack and defence techniques. We also emphasise on improving the mind-body connection, enhancing flexibility, balance, and coordination. The practice aims to cultivate both physical strength and mental clarity, ensuring students develop a well-rounded martial arts foundation that extends beyond just combat skills.
