Our idea of Mamangam is that of a people-space enabling dance, expression and exploration together. So, the essence of the artwork too would lie in serving as an invitation for people to come together and dance.

We realized that if we were to look at dance, it extends much further than human bodies, to other animal and plant bodies and the cosmos itself. We built on the idea of the cosmic dance as expressed through all kinds of beings from land and sea, while including elements like the thechi (ixora) and touch-me-not that are closer to the home base of Mamangam in Kerala. The ethos and contemporary dance vocabulary of Mamangam was taken into consideration for the dancing humans — grounded and curious in form but unshackled in their movement and exploration.

Our vision was to showcase an expansive entanglement of dancing bodies, freely flowing and growing together in the glow of a fire that Mamangam is.
