Born from tradition but unbound by it, our Semi-Classical classes, as the name suggests aims to combine various elements of Folk and Classical art forms to create a unique language of expression. Classes are designed with a focus to learn a choreography to a popular song in the span of three months.
Semi-Classical combines elements of classical art forms like Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi and Kathak along with Indian Folk and Indian Contemporary in order to create different perspectives of story-telling through a song.
The classes will focus on learning a single choreography to a popular song in the time frame of three months. A course of twelve classes thus, will tackle the various concepts, given below, required to learn and execute the choreography.
– Basic foundations of Classical and Folk Art forms used in the choreography
– Understanding rhythm and melodies
– Understanding Abhinaya
– Interpreting Lyrics
– Analyzing intonations and accents
– Sequence development, transitions between movements
– Utilizing various levels/directions/spaces
– Building confidence and performance skills.
The course is primarily designed to understand nuances of music and adapt various styles of dances to express what the song conveys. Students will be exposed to the basics of various folk and classical art forms and learn how to structure them into a choreographic sequence. Additionally, it also tackles how to intersperse Abhinaya and Nritta into a popular song outside the boundaries of a particular style.
